Project Details

The 2025 Frontier Texas Annual Report was conceived as an editorial publication that communicates the museum's mission through storytelling rather than statistics alone. Designed as a magazine, the report documents a transformational year that included the completion of the museum's expansion, the opening of the Jerri & Jim Alexander Exhibit Gallery and Legacy Hall, new educational initiatives, archival preservation, fundraising successes, and strengthened partnerships across Texas.

Feature stories explore the Guardians of the Frontier exhibition commemorating the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary, the history and impact of the Texas Heritage Trails Program, and the enduring legacy of ranching and land stewardship. Together, these stories reinforce Frontier Texas' mission to preserve, interpret, and share the people, places, and events that shaped the Texas frontier while encouraging readers to experience these historic sites firsthand.

A significant focus of the publication is the role of living history reenactors, whose dedication transforms museums and historic sites into immersive experiences. Their authentic portrayals allow visitors to engage with history in meaningful ways while strengthening heritage tourism across Texas. Through documentary photography and editorial storytelling, the report recognizes these volunteers as essential ambassadors who connect modern audiences with the soldiers, Native peoples, settlers, ranchers, and frontier communities that shaped the American West.

The publication received national and regional recognition, earning three Gold Awards from the Society of Publication Designers in New York for Cover Design and Photography, three Gold ADDY Awards and the Judge's Choice Award from the American Advertising Federation – Dallas, two Silver ADDY Awards from AAF District 10, and two Bronze Bulb Awards from the Dallas Society of Visual Communication. The project demonstrates how editorial design can elevate an annual report into a compelling publication that informs, inspires, and builds lasting support for the preservation of Texas history.
