Buffalo Gap Wine & Food Summit — Roots & Boots

Poster design for the 13th annual Buffalo Gap Wine & Food Summit, combining Texas Western imagery with the agricultural roots of wine.

Project Details

Roots & Boots was created for the 2017 Buffalo Gap Wine & Food Summit, an event built around Texas food, wine and the setting of Perini Ranch in Buffalo Gap.

The central image combines a Western boot with the roots of a grapevine, bringing the two sides of the event together in one simple form. The boot connects the poster to Texas and the ranch setting, while the roots tie it back to wine and the land that produces it.

The idea started during a drive to Sonoma Raceway, where the vineyards along the route led to a series of sketches. I kept working on the concept later that evening while staying at the Perini Ranch Guest Quarters, and that combination of California wine country and West Texas became the basis for the final poster.

I developed the concept and overall design, with Paul Claycomb contributing detail work to the illustration. The finished piece gave the summit a distinct identity that felt connected to both the wine and the place where the event was held.
