Project Details
For the second issue of Range, we refined the editorial structure and reconsidered how departments and feature stories worked within the Mag+ platform. Simplifying the way the publication was organized gave the team more room to focus on the interactive side of the experience, including video, diagrams and progressive content reveals.
The issue centered on the people and experiences that shape the pilot profession. Its lead feature focused on Southwest Airlines founder Herb Kelleher and the culture he helped establish, while other stories looked at the challenges facing commercial pilots, honored aviators with connections to fallen members of the military and highlighted the profession’s continued involvement in charitable work and mentorship.
We worked as one team across editorial, design, illustration and development, which made a big difference in how the issue came together. It gave us the flexibility to push the interactive side of the magazine without losing the structure we had already established for Range.
The issue received a Judges’ Choice Award and Silver recognition at the 2013 DSVC Dallas Show for illustration and art direction.
