Authentic Texas Prehistoric Lone Star State

Cover and feature design for an issue of Authentic Texas exploring archaeology, prehistoric Texas and the discovery of La Belle.

Project Details

This issue of Authentic Texas explored the state’s prehistoric past through archaeology, fossils and the historic sites that preserve those stories today.

A central feature profiled archaeologist Dr. Jim Bruseth and his work locating and excavating La Belle, the ship lost during La Salle’s seventeenth-century expedition along the Texas coast.

I developed the cover and feature design around a sense of discovery, combining artifact photography, archival material, illustration and editorial typography. Steven Lyons extended the visual direction through the print and digital editions.
