Editorial publication exploring how Frontier Texas brings the people and stories of the Texas frontier to life.
The 2019 annual report for Frontier Texas demonstrated how continued investment in the museum supports the preservation and presentation of Texas history. Designed as a 34-page editorial publication, the report combined institutional information with stories, artwork and visitor experiences rather than relying on the conventional appearance of a nonprofit report.
A central feature introduced “What’s My Fate?,” an interactive exhibition that allows visitors to follow the lives of historical figures from the Texas frontier. After learning about the choices and circumstances each person faced, visitors use a reveal card at the conclusion of the exhibition to discover that individual’s fate. Presenting the experience within the report helped communicate how Frontier Texas makes history personal, participatory and memorable.
I designed the publication to balance organizational information with visual storytelling. The layouts gave equal consideration to museum programs, historical narratives and the artwork used throughout the report, creating a document that could engage donors, board members, community partners and tourism officials.
Printed by Brodnax Printing and featuring interior paintings by H.C. Zachry, the completed report provided Frontier Texas with a compelling tool for demonstrating the value of its programs and building support for the museum’s future.
