Advertising campaign for Frontier Texas built around double-page magazine spreads that use the language of contemporary entertainment to introduce the people, conflicts and stories of the Texas frontier.
This campaign for Frontier Texas appeared as a series of double-page spreads in Authentic Texas magazine. I developed the copy and layout around a simple idea: use the language of film, adventure and popular culture to introduce real people and conflicts from the Texas frontier.
The first ad, “Empires. Bounty hunters. Rebellions.”, centered on Quanah Parker and the Comanche world he represented. The second, “Forces. Commanders. Ultimate weapons.”, focused on Colonel Ranald S. Mackenzie and the military campaigns that helped reshape the frontier.
The third ad moved away from large-scale conflict and focused on a single figure, Wyatt Earp, with the line “Gunslinger. Gambler. Solo act.” A Smith & Wesson Model 3 appears as the small visual detail opposite the portrait, giving the spread a quieter, more character-driven feel while still fitting the campaign.
All three ads close with “Witness the stars and wars of the real Wild West.” The line ties the series together while making the point that the stories inside Frontier Texas are every bit as dramatic as the ones people already know from movies and television.
